GreenRate is a robust and comprehensive third-party verified ecolabelling program aligned with the ISO 14024:2018 standard for environmental labels and declarations. GreenTag’s GreenRate certification is recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia.

The GreenRate assessment has provided sustainability product assessments for Kingspan’s rigid board range, Kooltherm K10 G2 Soffit Board, Kooltherm K10 G2W White Soffit Board, Kooltherm K10 PLUS Soffit Board, Kooltherm K12 Framing Board, and Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard. To obtain a GreenRate certification, the relevant Kingspan products were evaluated against a range of sustainability attributes, such as the toxicity of materials and availability of environmental footprints (water and greenhouse gas emissions). Kingspan’s environmental and social responsibility performance was also evaluated across a range of criteria, including environmental management systems and ethical labour.

Danny Leahy, Sustainability, Innovation and Commercialisation Officer at Kingspan Insulation says, “The construction market in Australia is changing and manufacturers need to keep up by showing leadership in ESG and transparency in regard to their products. GreenTag is an accreditation that allows Kingspan to showcase both.”

Kingspan Kooltherm is an extensive range of rigid thermoset phenolic insulation, locally manufactured in Australia. It is the thinnest commonly used insulation board for any specific R-value, providing benefits such as saving on energy costs that could be incurred by the use of heating or cooling systems, and a more comfortable and healthy environment.

GreenRate's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assessment is suitable for use in Modern Slavery legislation risk assessment. The program's Health and Ecotoxicity component allows companies such as Kingspan to understand their product’s lifecycle. This rating scheme for manufacturers gives assurances to environmentally and socially conscious customers who need a trusted certification mark to distinguish products from 'green wash' in the market.

Global GreenTag first developed the GreenRate assessment scheme to align with the green building features of the Green Star rating tools, created by the Green Building Council of Australia. It has since evolved with implementation into other countries under the Green Building Councils of South Africa and New Zealand. Additionally, the GreenRate Mark is also compliant (audited for VOC test reports) in more than 38 countries under the WELL Building Program under WELL Features 04 (Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and X06 (Part 1, 2).

The GreenRate certification mark is becoming a prerequisite for many government and large state projects, while also giving value to products that are being used in the Green Building Council of Australia’s ‘Responsible Products Framework’. Gaining a GreenRate certification is one of several steps that Kingspan is taking to get products covered with environmental credentials.
