Hassell’s Ben Burrows wins Design Institute of Australia’s Interior Design Graduate of the Year award.
The Graduate of the Year Awards (GOTYA) is the Design Institute of Australia’s flagship program for emerging designers. It is a unique awards program created to support and celebrate exceptional designers from around Australia in the early stages of their career. This program is instrumental in providing tertiary institutions and design graduates with vital, real-life feedback from experienced designers and industry figures.
Ben Burrows started at Hassell at the end of 2018 and has worked across a variety of projects and design phases within the Interior Design team in the Hassell Brisbane studio.
He recently graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) as the Dux of his cohort and received the prestigious Artichoke Magazine Award for his honours project. His keen interest in the workplace sector was sparked by the shifting landscape of the modern office and he passionate about developing design outcomes that provide flexible, human-centric and self-organising working environments for users.
On receiving the award Burrows says, ”Being announced as the Design Institute of Australia’s Interior Design Graduate of the Year was not only a shock, but also an unexpected cherry on top of a wonderful year at Hassell and I look forward to what the future has in store for me at Hassell and in my career.”
Hassell principal Lucy O’Driscoll said that Burrows has shown a high level of tenacity and eagerness to learn and develop his skills and this award is recognition for that.
“When Ben started at Hassell at the end of 2018 he immediately stood out due to his desire to learn as much as he could, from as many people as possible. We have seen Ben grow and develop since that time, in particular during the work he did for his Honours study, and this award recognition is testament to this hard work and tenacity. We look forward to seeing what the future has in store for Ben.”
