Rebecca Want has joined professional services company GHD as Transport Market Leader for Sydney.

She has more than 20 years’ experience in strategic transport infrastructure leadership across the public and private sectors including Sydney Metro and Sydney Trains.

Rebecca brings a unique customer-centred design approach to projects melding this with her engineering background.

She is passionate about ensuring the end users are at the centre of infrastructure development, through co-design with customers and stakeholders.

“We need to be mindful that we are designing for the whole customer journey, often across multiple modes– getting people from their homes, to where they are going and back again seamlessly,” says Rebecca.

“I’m delighted to join GHD, who partner with our clients to create lasting community benefits. Sydney’s transport future is key to ensuring liveability and long-term sustainability with expected population growth."

"I look forward to collaborating with public and private sector clients in the delivery of transport infrastructure projects.”

“Transport infrastructure is not just about the design and delivery of a road or a metro line, it’s about the places that come to life when you enhance transport connections."

"And what is exciting about GHD’s capabilities is that we can contribute to every single element of that infrastructure and space design,” adds Rebecca.

“Rebecca has leading-edge metro and heavy rail industry knowledge, both technical and non-technical across all dimensions of the infrastructure project lifecycle,” says Mikel Alonso, GHD’s Australian Market Leader – Transport.

“She also has a significant profile having worked on projects such as Airport Rail Link, Epping Chatswood Rail Link and the Sydney Metro Program and a number of major tunnelling projects. We are thrilled to have her on board.”
