The World Architecture Festival has crowned Foster + Partners with the best ‘New and Old’ project for the Arlene Kogod Courtyard, Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
Judges were impressed by its ability to insert modern elements into existing structures, saying, “the theme ‘new and old’ has been interpreted liberally to include the conversion of the existing building, as well as using them simply as a point of departure and recycling industrial components”.
