The Victorian Government has appointed Australian multi-disciplinary design practice Hayball as lead architect on the Richmond Secondary College design project.
Melbourne’s population boom has triggered a demand for well-designed and well-planned infrastructure and amenities in the inner city area. To meet this demand, the Victorian Government has committed to plan, fund and build four new schools in inner Melbourne: Prahran High School, Richmond Secondary College, South Melbourne Park Primary and Ferrars Street South Melbourne.
Located in Melbourne’s inner city area, Richmond Secondary College will cater to families living in Richmond, a suburb which is growing by almost 3,000 people per year and has one of the highest densities in Melbourne.
A leader in the education design space in Australia, Hayball will apply its extensive expertise and knowledge in the sector to ensure Richmond Secondary College meets the demands of the broader community by providing students with a space to flourish and excel.
According to Hayball Director Richard Leonard, with more and more families living in Melbourne’s inner city, the increased urban densification has accelerated the need for more education institutions in suburbs like Richmond.
He said Hayball was honoured to be working with the Victorian Government on the design and development of Richmond College, as part of their strategy to develop inner city schools in key hubs.
Hayball is confident that their expertise in the contemporary education sector, including some of Victoria’s largest and most prestigious public and independent schools will ensure the new Richmond Secondary College will be of the highest design standard.
