MVRDV’s Book Mountain, in the center of Spijkenisse’s town market square, has taken out the internationally acclaimed Red Dot design award for “high quality design” in the Architecture and Urban Design category. The jury selected MVRDV’s Book Mountain from 4,662 entries, praising the project for its “exceptional quality and refined detail solutions”.

Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has completed his latest temporary pavilion at the campus of the IE Business School in Madrid. A neutrally-hued events space formed of 173 paper tubes held together with timber joints resting on paper columns, the IE’s Paper Pavilion will be used for meetings, presentations and events receptions over the coming months.

Engineers have discovered structural problems with the roof of a Rio de Janeiro Olympic stadium, forcing it to be closed indefinitely. The recently built João Havelange stadium is scheduled to host athletics events at the 2016 Games, but safety concerns over potential dangers for spectators in certain wind and temperature conditions have resulted in the city's mayor to order its closure.

A total of 12 firms including OMA, Herzog & Meuron, SANAA and BIG have been shortlisted to design the new headquarters for the Nobel Prize in Stockholm, Sweden. The building is set to become the new home of the Nobel Foundation, which has been based in Stockholm since 1900.
