Australian architecture and design practice Bates Smart has promoted three of their employees to studio directors in a bid to strengthen their leadership teams in both Melbourne and Sydney studios.

The three new studio directors, Basil Richardson, Steve Jones and Robert Graham bring their own unique strengths to the broader practice, and will support the existing management team in the firm’s next phase.

Basil Richardson has worked on design projects across multiple sectors with his portfolio including the TransGrid Head Office, the Ainsworth Building UNSW, P177 North Sydney and 130 Elizabeth Street.

Steve Jones brings broad international experience and capability to large complex projects, having led high-end luxury residential developments including the Capitol Grand, 424 St Kilda Road and 178 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne.

Robert Graham is acknowledged as one of the profession’s foremost design and delivery architects developing innovative solutions for large-scale projects including Collins Square, UNSW Kensington Colleges and the recently opened Canberra Vibe Hotel.

Bates Smart Managing Director Simon Swaney commented that the promotion of these talented and skilled industry leaders within their practice will further strengthen the firm’s focus on design quality and skilled delivery of their clients’ projects.
