Timber Development Association representing timber industry segments
Frequently Asked Questions
I am a student at Wydham College Quakers Hill. I have an assignment for Industrial Technology - Timber. I need to explain how and why the timber industry can be considered sustainable and explain the terms - sustainable, renewable and recyclable within the timber industry. If you have any information I can use or direct me to other areas for information I would appreciate it.
There are a number of excellent websites which will explain the terms sustainable and renewable and what they mean within the forestry and timber industry in Australia. These include: www.forests.nsw.gov.au/management www.naturallybetter.com.au http://adl.brs.gov.au/forestsaustralia/index.html At the end of its useful first life timber is also reusable, recyclable and can also be used to generate renewable energy (either domestic or industrial). www.timberstewardship.org.au is an excellent source of information about these aspects of timber industry in Australia.
I am an Architect and usually specify WRC for external door and window frames. Over time, fittings often become loose. Could you provide a list of other timbers that are suitable and are also suitable for a clear finish?
www.awa.org.au would be the best place to get the information you are requesting
Would you please advise if there is a MRTFC manual for Class 1b boarding house construction including walls between boarding houses.
Class 1a detached houses and Class 1b buildings (small boarding houses) have no fire resistance and sound control requirements which is why the manuals do not include timber construction for these building types.
