Australia square will undergo an $11 million refurbishment program covering both the main Tower building at 264-278 George Street and the Plaza building at 95 Pitt Street.

The work is being conducted by Bovis Lend Lease and involves refurbishment of the exterior of the Plaza Building, including a new entry from Pitt Street, replacing all pebblecrete paving in public areas with Italian porphyry paving stone, new lighting and new artwork in the tower building lobby and adding additional outdoor tables to the podium and plaza levels.

The paving works, which commence this month and continue to early 2004, will be conducted in small sections to minimise inconvenience to tenants and visitors. Work on the Plaza building will begin later this year.

When opened in 1968, Australia Square was the tallest lightweight concrete building in the world and was seen to establish a benchmark in workplace design, which still sees the building retain its status as a premier office building 35 years later. - Construction Contractor
