Scheduled to open mid 2009, Lynbrook Hotel in Melbourne’s Eastern suburb of Lynbrook has set a new standard in architecture and hospitality design.

After working closely with the builders on this large commercial project using stone cladding, CraftStone veneer was chosen as the main feature throughout the new hotel and motel complex.

The CraftStone veneer has been fitted over both pre-cast concrete panels and tilt panels. CraftStone also worked closely with the project engineers to develop a system to fix the stone over steel frame at heights. The solution was to use a compressed fibre cement sheet product and expanded metal lathe (mesh) to assist in the mortar bonding to the substrate. Stone Bond mortar adhesive additive was also added to the mortar mix to aid in adhesion to the sheet.

CraftStone is a manufactured stone, made from lightweight concrete, which provides an accurate replica of real stone. Cast separately from thousands of stone moulds, each individual piece of CraftStone is coloured to make sure there are never two stones that are the same. Using the CraftStone product, the developers were able to achieve significant savings on this commercial stacked stone project.
