Ashgrove in Queensland is best known for its gorgeous, pre-war homes, family-friendly atmosphere, and stunning parklands.

It’s the perfect place for the suburb’s newest premier aged care residence, TriCare Ashgrove.

Set in luxurious surrounds, the aged care residence offers outstanding views of Ithaca Creek and Brisbane City, and is just a hop, skip and jump away from the Broncos Leagues Club.

The brief for this project was to achieve a curtain wall look using expansive window wall systems. It also required a zero-transition sill as per AS1428.1 to avoid trip hazards for residents and create a sense of flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Tweed Coast Glass was called in for their expertise on all things windows and doors. They quickly identified a significant challenge, i.e., that the mullions were unable to withstand the intended heights and spans. In addition, the sills and door thresholds needed to meet DDA Sill compliance (*PWD* Accessibility) with limited rebate (25-30 mm only).

To address these challenges, the architect designed a wind beam and dropper steel support, and Tweed Coast Glass developed a custom-made sill AD950.

The result is a stunning, light-filled living space that perfectly suits the needs of its residents and promotes the ultimate inner-city lifestyle.
