Rainwater collection and child safety inserts are necessary addition to sustain the commercial industries, urban lifestyles and children’s safety.

A recent paper on Rainwater tanks, published by Professor Byard has drawn the attention of the media with a recently published article in the Courier Mail, Water tank boom puts kids at risk.

Prof. Byard’s main concerns were that the guidelines must be in place to ensure optimum storage of water that was not enough to being put on child safety. The main issue addressed was the access covers and leaf strainers not being robust or adequately secured. This applied to the underground tanks as well as the ground tanks.

The recommendations of Prof. Byard were:

  • To supervise the children
  • Ladders and access points should be removed to prevent climbing onto the tank
  • Child Safety Inserts should be installed
  • He noted some manufacturers provide childproof inserts to be fitted under access covers

Professor Byard’s paper was published in the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine.

The tanks from Action Tanks are Child Safe Water Tanks endorsed by Laurie Lawrence and the Kids Alive Initiative.

All above ground rainwater tanks supplied by Action Tank are fitted with the patented Child Safe Insert. This insert prevents children from accessing the internal area and falling in the tank and even holds the weight of an adult.
