An exhibition showcasing the work of the iconic experimentalists, Zaha Hadid Architects, has opened in Melbourne.
Zaha Hadid Architects: Reimagining Architecture is an interactive, multi-medium exhibition that spans 40 years of work by the practice. The exhibition is divided into three sections: past work, present work (with a focus on Australian projects, such as two apartment towers in Melbourne) and their various product and furniture design collaborations.
For the most part, architectural works are presented as metallic-coated scale models, made specifically for the exhibition and displayed on Perspex-covered plinths. However, there are myriad mediums represented, including the opportunity to delve inside various international Zaha Hadid projects using virtual reality.
Many of their more transportable design projects are presenting in-situ, ranging from furniture to shoes to lighting. Some of the more notable objects on display are the Nova Shoe that Zaha Hadid Architects made for United Nude, and the CNC-routed marble Quad Tables for Citco.
A collection of photographs depicted in timeline format round out the exhibition.
Melbourne is the third destination to have secured the travelling exhibition, in large part because of Zaha Hadid Architects’ current residential project on St. Kilda Road in collaboration with UEM Sunrise (who have also collaborated on the exhibition). The exhibition has come to us from Singapore, prior to which it was on show in Kuala Lumpur.
Zaha Hadid Architects: Reimagining Architecture will be held within the existing building on the future site of Zaha Hadid’s St. Kilda Road project, the former police headquarters at 412 St. Kilda Road. It will remain open from 4 November until 20 December 2017.
