Off Canvas is a celebration of artistic talent born from the urban centres of the world. With paint as their medium and the streets as their canvas, a new generation of artists and sign writers have made their way from walls and windows to museums and galleries. At every moment, there is an artist working with paint in some part of the world – contributing to the visual culture of our time and breaking the boundaries of traditional art forms.

Off Canvas has been curated by Taubmans Paints as a tribute to its founder, George Henry Taubman, who was a sign painter in the early 1900s. He started the Taubmans business to supply himself with the best quality paint for his trade.

The mission of Off Canvas is to communicate the passion and talent of Australian street artists, sign writers and other creatives. The site is a hub of visual inspiration aimed at keeping you up to date with the latest installations and provides you with inspiring profiles of artists both from Australia and throughout the world.

In the current era of institutional art where there is little consensus on a period identity for contemporary art – could street art be the next art movement? Certainly for those whose careers depend on keeping abreast of visual culture, street art is an important line of inspiration.

Off Canvas will also be bringing this celebration of unique talent into the tangible at the 2015 Eat Drink Design Awards, sponsored by Taubmans. Showcasing his distinctive aesthetic and technique, prolific street artist and Off Canvas ambassador, Rone will be creating two custom art works live at the event.
