Accounting for eight percent of global emissions, the design typology of hospitality and tourism spaces is due to shift dramatically in due course. The construction of these institutions and consumption of resources amongst resorts and hotels is quickly becoming a polarising issue..

While people look to get away and unwind, the respective carbon footprint of each guest or patron should still remain at a low point, and the onus falls upon both the client’s and architects within this sector to assist in making these new and existing spaces more sustainable.

It is these clients and architects that make the effort to reduce emissions and promote sustainable architecture within the sector that will be celebrated at the 2023 Sustainability Awards.

The Hospitality & Tourism category will feature a shortlist of projects that help create locally owned business and employment opportunities, environmentally friendly operations, education and awareness programs, energy and resource conservation, and waste & carbon dioxide reduction.

Projects submitted for consideration will be required to demonstrate sustainable outcomes, and have an overall positive contribution to their local communities and economies. The key considerations for submissions include functionality and ongoing performance, integrated sustainability aspects, long-term thinking, relevance to context, serviceability and human amenity.

Bondor, a leading provider of thermal building solutions and lightweight architectural panels, has partnered with the Sustainability Awards to be the inaugural category sponsor of the Hospitality & Tourism award.

Bondor is committed to consistently improving its environmental and sustainable building practices. The company's insulated panels are made from recycled materials and can be easily disassembled and reused, making them a very sustainable choice for architects.

The panels are installed using a combination of screws, rivets, and adhesives, which can be easily removed and reused. This makes Bondor's insulated panels a very sustainable choice for the hospitality and tourism industry. The panels can be easily reused in new construction or renovation projects, which reduces the need for new materials and helps to conserve resources.

The 2023 edition of the Sustainability Awards will culminate in a gala dinner held in November, where the winners of each category will be unveiled. To put your project in the mix, we ask that you register it here.
