The Line is a breakthrough smart city project in Saudi Arabia that redefines the concept of urban development. Currently under construction, The Line has been planned as a linear city stretching across 170 kilometres, from the epic mountains of NEOM across inspirational desert valleys to the beautiful Red Sea.

A mirrored architectural masterpiece towering 500 metres above sea level, but a land-saving 200 metres wide, this city of the future is a revolutionary development that promises unparalleled livability with no roads, cars or emissions, and will run on 100% renewable energy. With 95% of land preserved for nature, The Line will prioritise people's health and wellbeing over transportation and infrastructure, unlike traditional cities, and achieve a harmonious balance between urban life and the natural environment.

The Line will eventually accommodate 9 million people and will be built on a footprint of just 34 square kilometres. This will mean a reduced infrastructure footprint, creating never-before-seen efficiencies in city functions. A combination of advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, all-electric autonomous transportation systems and smart homes among others will help create a model city that delivers quality of life to its residents in a sustainable way.

The ideal climate all-year-round will ensure that residents can enjoy the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region. They will also have access to all daily essentials within a five-minute walk, in addition to a high-speed rail with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.

"The Line will tackle the challenges facing humanity in urban life today and will shine a light on alternative ways to live. We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises facing our world’s cities, and NEOM is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues. NEOM is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering and construction to make the idea of building upwards a reality," His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Chairman of the NEOM Company Board of Directors, said.
