A new document by Colt International Pty limited titled ‘Maximising Energy Performance and Productivity with Solar Shading’ outlines the advances made by the Colt Group worldwide in the areas of shading systems.

The document also examines how Colt’s solutions assist designers with innovative fixed and automatic solar shading systems to provide aesthetically pleasing facades whilst achieving large gains in energy efficiencies.

‘Maximising Energy Performance and Productivity with Solar Shading’ lists out all of Colt’s shading solutions to achieve the twin aims of an impressive appearance with increased energy efficiency. Key advantages of the solar shading systems including lower cooling and heating needs, lower artificial lighting needs, free energy generation using photovoltaic cells, improved ventilation cooling with double facades, greater productivity gains and a pleasing aesthetic have been covered in the document.

The document also reviews and outlines the benefits of various Colt products including fixed and operable shading systems such as Grata, Schermo and Ellisse, vertical folding bi-fold shutters as well as controllable glass systems such as Shadoglass and Shadovoltaic. The Shadovoltaic is a unique sun tracking glass louvre system consisting of integrated solar cells that enable free electricity to be generated whilst shading the building and reducing the heat gain as well as cooling capacity requirement.

The comprehensive document also gives a very good selection of various projects completed around the world. An impressive example is the Colt sun tracking vertical Ellisse system installed on an office tower in Waterloo Road, North Ryde, NSW, which works in unison with the building’s BMS system to reduce the cooling and heating requirements of the building.
