Double glazed aluminium framed windows from EDGE Architectural have been installed at Collingwood Football Club’s new Community Centre and Glasshouse in Olympic Park, Melbourne.
Melbourne is known for pushing design boundaries, especially when it comes to commercial architecture. Designed by Croxon Ramsay with interiors by Hecker Guthrie, Collingwood Football Club’s new entertainment facility is representative of this famous Melbourne design aesthetic.
Olympic Park’s latest addition combines Croxon Ramsay’s understanding of geometry and shape play, and Hecker Guthrie’s masterful ability to forecast interior trends. Key design highlights include large floor to ceiling double glazed windows, providing refreshing natural light into the eatery while also offering almost uninterrupted oval views; double glazed bi-fold doors allowing the cafe to spill out into alfresco dining space; a triangular feature window as the architectural focal point, integrating sharp shapes into a facade with multiple curved lines and the glazing panels divided into smaller triangular shapes to further enhance visual effectiveness; and triangle repetition across exaggerated soffits, juxtaposing with the building’s curvaceous glass front.
Double glazed aluminium frames from EDGE Architectural as well as use of glass, steel and zinc materials evoke sophistication and true Melbournian designer chic.
Hecker Guthrie’s interior design skills are showcased in the spacious and fresh layout of Collingwood Football Club’s new facility with meeting rooms, offices, a gymnasium and aquatic centre filling the development. The Glasshouse Function Centre located behind a glass wall is a state-of-the-art reception facility designed for use by the Collingwood Football Club, and also available for private functions. With impressive views across the Magpie’s training oval and AAMI Park, this space is expected to be in high demand.
The community centre has an experiential quality and has the ability to shift from sporting facility and supporter hub, into hipster cafe and luxurious function venue. This flexibility and fluidity of the facility’s layout can be attributed to savvy architectural design and spatial planning, and will keep the development popular for many years to come.
