Leading Australian glass manufacturer Viridian (formerly Pilkington and DMS Glass) has introduced a new affordable line of residential single glazed energy efficient glass options, selected specifically for Australia’s demanding climate.

Available in four options, Viridian SmartGlass incorporates the smart ‘Low E’ active insulation technology, a microscopically thin yet durable coating fused to the glass during manufacturing that improves a home’s energy efficiency rating by up to a whole ‘star’ in some installations.

SmartGlass offers excellent insulation performance, up to 39% higher than ordinary glass enabling homeowners to enjoy greater comfort while saving energy bills around the year through reduced use of artificial heating or cooling systems in the home.

SmartGlass residential glass is available in a choice of four solar protection levels to suit specific residential applications across a broad range of climate zones and home orientations.

Viridian SmartGlass range comes in a range of tones, namely Clear, Neutral, Green and Grey, which offer increasing levels of solar protection from the sun’s heat and greater glare control.

The monolithic single-glazed SmartGlass can be readily substituted for ordinary glass, making it a very simple solution for builders, specifiers and consumers to improve their glazing design.

According to Viridian General Manager of Marketing Lachlan Austin, SmartGlass is an entry level range of glazing products that will enhance Viridian’s comprehensive line of single and double glazed products in the category of energy efficient glazing while making advanced glazing more accessible to Australian builders, renovators and homeowners.

SmartGlass residential glazing products are primarily targeted at residential volume builders, helping them make good glass choices in different climate zones while achieving higher energy ratings without sacrificing natural light and aspect.

Lachlan comments that home buyers are increasingly interested in their window and glass options as they become aware of the difference glazed windows make to the comfort, energy efficiency and general appeal and liveability of their homes. Prior to SmartGlass, energy-efficient glazing was seen as being unaffordable for first and second home buyers.
