Trimble Australia announces Trimble’s acquisition of the Terralite assets from Novariant to expand its portfolio of positioning solutions.
Trimble specialises in an advanced range of positioning technologies designed to enhance productivity among field and mobile workers in business or government.
Key features of the Terralite XPS technology
- Scalable infrastructure that generates signals for real-time positioning to augment existing Global Positioning System coverage
- Network of ground-based transmitter stations broadcasts a proprietary signal to one or more mobile GPS+XPS receivers
- Allows operators of GPS-enabled machines such as drills, bulldozers, shovels and haul trucks to receive continuous real-time positioning information
Bryn Fosburgh, Vice President of Trimble says that the Terralite asset acquisition expands Trimble's technology portfolio and now enables them to offer an even broader range of positioning solutions. These solutions are particularly relevant in surface mining and other high-value site operations challenged by limited or no GPS coverage.
While global positioning systems are a proven utility for determining positioning, sometimes GPS systems require augmentation in areas with obstructed views of the sky.
Several technologies are available to augment GPS including receivers that track GPS along with additional GNSS signals, optical technology, inertial systems, cellular network-assisted GPS, LAN-based positioning and laser augmented GPS among others.
