The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) designed and supplied folding security doors for a heritage building during the execution of the NSW Government’s prestigious $300-million Wynyard Walk project in Sydney’s CBD.

Designed as a world-class, fully accessible pedestrian link, the Wynyard Walk project connects Wynyard Station to both Barrangaroo and the CBD western corridor. The lead architect for the project, Woods Bagot engaged ATDC to design a folding security door to secure Railway House, a heritage building on York Street with doorways leading on to York Lane.

Woods Bagot sought folding security doors that blended into the surrounds of the historic building with minimal visual and physical impact. To ensure this, the doors needed to be trackless with the ability to pivot out of the way when unlocked and not in use. The special powder-coat finish (Signal schwarz) selected from the international RAL range further complemented the heritage façade of the building.

Involved in all aspects of the design process of the folding security doors, ATDC liaised with the project managers, CPB Contractors on the challenging installation, which didn’t allow for the doors to be affixed to the heritage façade or lock onto it. Specially designed welded frames were fitted to the floor and ceiling to avoid attaching to the façade, while special seamless up/down locking mechanisms were utilised to avoid the doors locking onto the façade. The locking mechanisms on these folding security doors had to be keyed to the master key system used for the site.

ATDC’s folding security doors have been installed on many heritage buildings throughout Australia including several old railway stations in QLD, NSW, WA and Vic. The antiquated style combined with negligible impact on the relevant historic buildings has been a major advantage for ATDC’s security doors.

ATDC’s folding security doors are available for sale in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Darwin as well as all regional centres across the country including Newcastle, Geelong, Townsville and Cairns.
