Leading flooring specialist Bolon is presenting an exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden to display new products, crossover collections and collaborations with some of the most reputed international design brands.
Representing a fresh chapter in Bolon’s 70-year history, ‘Innovators at Heart’ will showcase the company’s experimental and collaborative approach to material production.
Bolon by Jean Nouvel Design
The architectural flooring designed for Bolon by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Jean Nouvel will be on show at the exhibition. Defined by a bold colour palette, subtle striping and strong architectural expression, this flooring was first introduced at Nouvel’s retrospective exhibition at the Louvre’s famous Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in October 2016, and expanded into a full collection in 2017.
Jean Nouvel designed the striped pattern so that it could be arranged at a diagonal from a window to appear as sunlight coming through glass.
A presentation of furniture by top international design brands furthers the collaborative spirit of the exhibition, with innovators such as Monica Förster, Doshi Levien and Färg & Blanche interpreting Bolon textiles in voluminous design objects. Bolon textiles have been used as upholstery in design objects by Moroso, Cappellini, Kettal, Thonet, BD Barcelona and Gärsnäs.
Bolon First: Rug Collections
Bolon will also unveil its collection of rugs at the exhibition, marking the company’s debut in interior design. Featuring alternating stripes in muted tones with a subtle shimmer, the rugs are the result of an experiment to combine glitter thread and wool to achieve a tactile effect characteristic of Bolon’s unique refined look and durable quality. The colour and material palette of the rug takes inspiration from the deep jewel tones and moody neutrals of fashion textiles.
Duet and Villa La Madonna from the collection, explore the rug as a site-specific design concept. While Villa La Madonna, characterised by a shimmery geometric pattern is named for the boutique hotel in Italy belonging to Bolon’s owners Annica and Marie, Duet has a combination of glittery and solid fibres, but in more muted tones of deep blues, greys and greens. With their softer look and feel, Bolon rugs are a perfect complement to hotel interiors.
New Bolon Studio Tile: Wave
Bolon has added a new tile shape to the Bolon Studio concept in 2017. Inspired by the organic curvature of terracotta rooftop tiles, the Wave flooring tile can be combined with a wide variety of colours and patterns for a playful yet elegant expression.
Bolon is represented in Australia by TAG - the andrews group.
