TEREX Lifting Australia (Terex) auctioned a 15t capacity Franna AT15 pick-and-carry crane at the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) national crane conference held in Fremantle in early October 2005.
Highlighting the strong demand for Franna cranes at present, the winning bid for the AT15 was $30,000 above the reserve set for the auction. Bob Maxwell of Rigweld (Melbourne) made the winning bid, and the crane was immediately trucked to Melbourne where it started work on the Spencer Street Station Redevelopment.
Terex decided that it would donate the $30,000 to the Leukemia Foundation in memory of Franna Cranes co-founder Brian Hain, who died in 2001 after a long battle with the illness.
At a recent ceremony, Terex Cranes Australia general manager Darren Woodley handed over the cheque to Peter Johnstone, Queensland ceo of the Leukaemia Foundation. Graeme Snow, president of Mobile Crane Hirers Association of Queensland, attended on behalf of CICA.
Johnstone stated, “These funds will make a valuable contribution to research into finding a cure for leukaemia; providing accommodation for the families of country people being treated for leukaemia; and counselling people suffering from the disease.”
In handing over the cheque, Woodley said, “Terex is happy to see these funds go to such a worthy cause. We appreciate the role played by CICA and the conference committee in organising the auction at the crane conference, and the generous bid of Bob Maxwell which made these funds available.”
