Supawood Architectural Lining Systems was selected by designers Sanders
Global to provide a complete solution for the refitting of a shopping mall in
Canberra.
The project involved the refitting and extension of a large redundant
DFO building to accommodate several major retail players, over 30 speciality shops
and a 256-seat food court. Commissioned to create a central shopping and community
hub for the local area as part of the Canberra Airport development precinct,
Sanders Global transformed the building into the Majura Park Shopping Centre.
Seeking to maintain a coordinated theme throughout the mall while addressing
noise reverberation, the designers wanted to unify the timber finishes over different
acoustic lining products. This design objective could only be achieved by
sourcing all the products from a single supplier.
Supawood’s coordinated finishes over a diverse range of interior lining systems
made the brand the obvious choice for the project.
To achieve integration, Spotted Gum was selected in two finish options, Supafinish
concept veneer on Supacoustic perforated panels and Supaline solid panels, and Supaveneer
NTV on Supaslat Maxi Beam.
The white ceiling has been ingeniously broken up by installing
alternating sections of Supacoustic perforated panels and Supaslat Maxi Beam,
and integrating lighting for a classy look. Supacoustic panels also add warmth
and dampen noise in an open court area outside one of the department stores. Supaline
panels additionally provide a welcoming atmosphere on the lowered ceiling over
the large food court.
By working with a single supplier, Supawood, the designers of Majura
Park were able to achieve consistent finishes across a variety of products, saving
valuable time.
