Driftwood slatted panels from Supawood Architectural Lining Systems were
employed by interior designers Hassel in the office fitout of a Brisbane
CBD-based law firm.
Gadens Lawyers sought ‘feel and character that conveyed maturity and
confidence’ in the design of their lawyers’ chambers, with the brief being very
specific about connecting people on a human level. The lawyers were very
particular about avoiding the conventional impersonal legal workplace environment
in their office.
Hassell used Supawood’s unique Driftwood slatted panels to deliver an
authentic rustic feel with its etched grained surface. This unusual aged effect
provided an interesting and welcoming atmosphere for staff and visitors alike,
achieving the desired human connection.
Driftwood was used for ceilings and walls throughout the reception and
entry areas. The panelling with its maritime look provided a figurative
connection between the consulting offices and the vistas of the Brisbane River
below.
Driftwood was fitted in both loose slats and Supatile slat panels in Supafinish
as well as custom stains. Acoustic features were included to reduce noise
reverberation while the Supatile format provided hatch access to the ceiling
for maintenance work. Supatile 10 was also used in other areas of the fitout.
Hassell designed the fitout over five floors, across some 7,000sqm and
achieved a Green Star Office Interiors 1.1 rating. The fitout also won the
Highly Commended honour at the 2013 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in
the ‘Workplace Over 1000sqm’ category.
