Sunscreen Window Tinting installed 3M PR70 Prestige window film at an apartment building in Sydney’s CBD to provide a clear heat, glare and fade control solution unmatched by metallic films.

The building manager approached Sunscreen with a patchwork of problems, often observed in residential and commercial buildings governed by strict strata guidelines and body corporate rulings.

Several tenants, especially on the upper levels faced problems with the amount of heat radiating through the glass throughout the day in the summer months. With each tenant hanging different coloured drapes and blinds or applying different brands, strengths, shades or colours of window film, the building’s aesthetic was badly impacted.

Sunscreen recommended 3M Prestige PR70 solar control window film as a superior solution to reduce heat, glare and ultraviolet rays as well as prevent fading and reduce energy costs. The clear window film also ensured that the building exterior appeared uniform regardless of whether the apartments had installed the film or not. Traditional window films are either dark dyed films that fade and turn purple while highly reflective mirrored films change the external appearance of the building giving a ‘patchwork’ effect if some areas are tinted and others are not.

3M Prestige PR70 window film uses innovative multi-layer optical film technology to provide a clear appearance and a host of advantages such as high IR reduction, superior clarity, resistance to corrosion and zero signal interference.

3M Prestige PR70 film gives low reflectivity along with an optimised balance of performance and natural light. The clear solar control film reduces 97% of infrared heat, which accounts for 50% of all heat, 23% of glare and 99.98% of UV rays without changing the external appearance of the building.

The 3M Prestige Series marks a significant technological advancement in how window films can enhance buildings and homes. Residential and commercial property owners now have a high performance clear window film that combines all the benefits of heavily-tinted or reflective films, without the inherent drawbacks of darkened rooms or mirrored windows. Prestige films have 1% higher reflectivity than the glass they cover, so the appearance of the building is virtually unchanged.

Sunscreen performed the installation on 10 windows of the building within one working day without causing any disruption to the owner. The results were immediately noticeable with lower requirement for air conditioning and the resultant savings in energy costs.

3M Prestige PR70 clear window films eliminate the need for heavy window coverings to keep out the heat and glare, and offer superior heat rejection ability for greater energy savings and improved comfort. Featuring a warm natural hue, the window film protects inhabitants against the harmful UV rays of the sun while also extending the life of furnishings without fading.

Key benefits of 3M Prestige PR70 window film also include low interior and exterior reflectivity, allowing clearer views; new 3M nano-technology for enhanced colour stability; reduced glare and eye discomfort; comprehensive 3M manufacturer’s warranty; increased personal safety from flying glass in the event of breakage; superior scratch resistant coating; and unchanged glass appearance after application.
