Style Timber Floor created a bespoke, prefabricated and finished floor for Sofitel Sydney’s new Esprit Noir Lobby bar, meeting the designer’s vision while simplifying installation for the fitout company.

APlus Design specified Style Timber’s engineered timber flooring during the design and construction of the new Sofitel Sydney in Darling Harbour. A frequent user of Style Timber’s products, the client also specified the engineered flooring in the Atelier restaurant and the Bellerive Suite at the hotel.

The Esprit Noir Lobby Bar at Sofitel Sydney was originally planned to feature Style Timber’s standard strip flooring. However, the designer decided to install something more opulent for this space and Mario Savva from Savcon was asked to cut the strip flooring to create the unique design.

When Savcon contacted Style Timber, director Jack Wang immediately suggested a bespoke floor that would be prefabricated and finished at their factory using the designer’s drawings.

“When Savcon approached us, we knew that a bespoke flooring solution would be far less complicated and much quicker for them to install. For us, it was a very exacting exercise with no room for error as each piece of the parquetry had to fit easily and all dimensions had to be spot on,” Wang explained.

The resulting floor was a huge success with the designer thrilled to see their concept come to life and the fitout company appreciating the ease of installation.

“With the bespoke flooring option, we saved a great deal of time and money; to achieve the designer’s concept, we would have needed to individually cut and lay the original strip flooring. Style Timber made our lives much easier by producing the designed flooring in their factory and the result is a beautiful floor matching the designer’s specifications,” Savva said.

In addition to the Esprit Noir Lobby Bar, Style Timber also provided flooring for the Atelier restaurant and the Bellerive Suite including the bathroom, bedroom, dining and living rooms. Style Timber’s ‘New York’ colour from the Euro Oak Milano Collection was used in all three locations

The Sofitel Sydney project was an excellent opportunity for Style Timber to prove that they could create whatever the designer visualised, as long as their drawing was clearly and accurately detailed. Style Timber has the capacity to create a bespoke floor, giving designers endless options for very high end residential homes as well as hotels and hospitality venues.

“We are thrilled with the result of this project and are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their projects within their budget and constraints. Where once an installation such as this could only be done with specialist parquetry installers using solid timber, there is now the option to use engineered oak and it does not require a specialised skillset as it is pre-cut, prefinished and easily assembled,” Tilly Cefai of Style Timber concluded.
