Solahart , an Australian manufacturer of solar water heating is calling on New South Wales residents to celebrate Sustainable House Day on 13-14 September.
Across neighbourhoods in NSW, owners of energy smart homes, and businesses and schools will open their doors to members of the public.
Now in its seventh year, Sustainable House Day is an opportunity for the community to visit homes, engage with home owners, designers, architects, builders and product suppliers and learn how to reduce energy consumption in their day-to-day lives.
According to Solahart, a gold sponsor for this yearʼs event, Sustainable House Day is a rare opportunity to see smart energy use and energy efficiency in action in a domestic environment.
“As rising electricity and gas prices dent the family budget, families are looking at ways to reduce household energy consumption to better manage their bills and carbon footprint. Sustainable House Day is a real opportunity to learn about practical measures you can take to conserve energy, save money and help the environment,” Solahart National Manager Stephen Cranch says.
“While we often hear about the benefits of solar water heating, many people are unaware of just how accessible and affordable this technology is.”
“The average home produces around 14 tonnes of C02 per year with emissions from water heating alone contributing a huge chunk of 3.5 tonnes. Switching to solar water heating can reduce your water heating bill by up to 90 per cent every year, depending on the system you choose and the location of your home,” Mr Cranch says.
“To help with the cost of a system, the Federal Government and several state governments provide cashbacks to people who install solar water heaters, provided they meet eligibility criteria,” Mr Cranch says.
“On top of the reduced energy bills, switching to solar water heating has enormous benefits for the environment. Installing a solar water heater is the equivalent of taking a 4 cylinder car off the road,” he says.
