Since releasing their luxury fireplace range Axis Double Sided, Sculpt have had many inquiries about how to adapt this classic European style for an Australian market. The range provides an opportunity to maximise the enjoyment of a traditional fireplace both inside and outside the home. By installing an Axis Double Sided fireplace unit into an external wall, any home design can be complimented.

After much experimentation Sculpt have determined a way to install an Axis Double Sided fireplace into an external wall.

The following is a guide on achieving this installation.

Sculpt recommend that before installing any sort of fireplace product, explicit consideration is taken before conducting any external wall installations. It should be noted that no units should ever be left in direct contact with the elements as, despite being made of the highest quality raw materials and being built to last, exposure to the rain and sun will void all warrantees.

The damper needs to be installed facing the interior of the home and be closed when not in use. This is to ensure safety and security as well as barring insects and the wind from getting in.

For extra protection, Sculpt recommend adding a trim to the unit on the outside wall, securely locking and closing any gaps that may be present or accessible in the wall cavity. Metal intakes and outtakes are required on internal walls as per standard installation as this will provide maximised operation and combustion of the fireplace.

The Axis Double Sided range can now be installed and enjoyed from the inside or the outside.

Sculpt would also like to mention that their Seguin cast iron Cheminee range is not recommended for placement on external walls due to its lack of locking ability on the exterior facing door mechanism.

All wood fire installations must be in accordance with Australian and New Zealand standard AS/NZ 2981:2001
