SBS Group was engaged by GHD Woodhead Architects to pre-fabricate a mix of diverse bulkhead shapes to create a vibrant and inspiring ceiling feature at the Melbourne Airport T2 Duty Free section. SBS Group was awarded the contract based on their long history in manufacturing iconic and distinctive ceilings.
For the architecturally designed ceiling feature, SBS Group used light gauge steel to manufacture the frames in sections to tight tolerances. The bulkheads were shipped to the site ready for immediate installation, making the whole process easier, faster and more accurate than the traditional stick build method.
The frames were custom designed to be suspended from droppers and fabricated to enable plaster or MDF linings to be directly fixed. Integration of other services helped the plastering contractor save time and money.
