High profile architect Ian Moore of Engelen Moore has been appointed creative director of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects ’ (RAIA) annual conference to be held at the Sydney Convention Centre, May 24 -28.

Speakers selected for the conference by Moore are those who he believes are addressing the multiplicity of concerns facing architects around the world today. They include Japanese architect Waro Kishi whose work has been called a redefinition of modernism and American architect Rick Joy whose architecture in the desert is guided by an environmental and ecological concern.

In addition to the usual keynote addresses, each of the speakers will give a master class to a limited number of delegates - sessions that are expected to be sell-outs.

In a further development of the conference’s co-location with the DesignBUILD exhibition, the RAIA together with their sponsors BHP Steel Colorbond, Caroma, Laminex and BHP Steel Lysaght are developing the ‘sprawling void’, a huge space in the centre of the exhibition that will include free sessions with the overseas speakers.

Tours of Sydney will be undertaken to showcase the best of the city’s contemporary architecture.
