In-house architects at Ryman Healthcare collaborated with the Outdure design team on the redevelopment and renovation of a large membrane podium including structure and surfaces at Sir Edmund Hillary Retirement Village in Auckland.
Ryman’s architects sought a solution with low-height capabilities for the redevelopment of the large outdoor space at the retirement village. The project included the removal of existing tiles and membrane, and installation of a new membrane as well as deck finishes.
Outdure’s versatile QwickBuild system gave the architects more options than they had anticipated as they could easily integrate not just tiles and decking into the design but also synthetic turf supported by the framework and innovative aluminium turf baseboards. The 1207-square-metre installation was completed quickly since most of the QwickBuild system was supplied as prefabricated made-to-measure deck frames for ease and efficiency onsite.
The architects and quantity surveyors collaborated with the Outdure design team to maximise usability of the space. QwickBuild was used as a floating floor system to support and integrate with decking, tiles and turf using hidden interlocking fasteners. Lightweight planter boxes along with the low maintenance Outdure tiles (Mineral), UltraPlush synthetic turf and EcoDecking decking boards, also reduced ongoing maintenance as well as running costs at the village.
