A range of portable high performance cooking appliances specifically designed for use on boats, caravans, in tents and studio apartments, even at home when entertaining is now available from Omega Appliances.

The range will be extended over the next few months.

First in line is a single portable induction cooktop and a portable oven/grill with twin built-in hotplates.

The former offers all of the stand-out advantages of inbuilt induction cooktops – instant heat, faster cooking times, safe no-heat cooking zone and greater control over cooking temperatures.

The latter, while only the size of a small microwave oven, will roast a chicken, bake a cake, grill a steak and boil an egg or simmer a sauce.

The Omega OIC16S portable induction cooktop is a low-profile, contemporary design in a durable stainless steel finish with user-friendly electronic controls to adjust temperature, time a cooking process and even programme ahead.

It even comes complete with its own 27cm induction-compatible saucepan with glass lid.

The appliance features pre-set temperature settings for steaming, frying and steaming plus individual settings of 70, 110, 130, 160, 190 and 220 degrees Centigrade.

The timing function can be set to a maximum 120 minutes and the programming function enables the user to pre-set the appliance to both start and stop cooking.

Induction cooktops start heating within seconds and heat food faster than other modes of cooking, tests have shown that an induction cooktop will halve the time it takes to boil water when compared with gas, electric and halogen models.

Induction technology is able to deliver virtually instant heat by heating the cooking vessel and not the cooking surface.

Basically, the induction element generates a magnetic field that induces heat in steel cookware placed on top of it, which in turn heats the food inside it. So the cooking zone itself remains cool throughout the cooking process – a safety feature.

The Omega OIC16S is fitted with a one metre power cord, is a 1500 watt lightweight appliance.

The Omega Mini Kitchen MK1 meanwhile, measures just 325mm(high) by 580mm wide and 340mm deep and has a 22 litre nett capacity oven.

The oven has an upper and concealed lower element plus a 1000 watt full width grill. The appliance features a thermostatic temperature range of 0º to 250º celsius, easy clean enamelled walls and floor and ample room for roasts, poultry and cakes.

Both elements on the cooktop have six heat settings and sit within a large 600ml spillage catchment and will suit all sized cooking vessels.

The Omega OIC16S portable induction cooktop and portable Mini Kitchen MK1 are available nationally from electrical retail outlets and appliance centres.
