POLYLAM, a vertical baffle system from durlum was installed at the National Library of Luxembourg to create a linear ceiling design that blended well into the modern environment.
The National Library of Luxembourg, which had previously gone through several relocations during its 220-year history, finally found itself a permanent home. Located on the well-known Kirchberg plateau, the library was constructed in just 4½ years, with the ultramodern and architecturally impressive building designed by Bolles+Wilson Architects.
Completed in 2019, the National Library features large, red-coloured exposed concrete elements on the exterior with the open, geometric character extending right across the three storeys of the interior.
For the foyer and reading areas, durlum collaborated with interior outfitting company Apleona to incorporate an appropriate ceiling solution.
The angular design of the National Library perfectly complements the straight lines of the white powdercoated POLYLAM vertical baffle ceiling. This linear ceiling design blends superbly into the modern and inviting environment of the library. Installed in various lengths, the baffles are also backed with fabric to substantially improve the interior acoustics.
The POLYLAM vertical baffle system features 0.6mm thick galvanised sheet steel with the baffle lengths ranging from 1000mm to 3500mm and 30mm width, powdercoated in RAL 9010, perforated in L6, and fabric-backed, with approx. 17,000 lm used for the installation.
