Mastermesh perforated mesh panels from Nepean Building & Infrastructure have been fitted on a recent project in Melbourne Park.
Part of the Melbourne and Olympic Parks precinct, the Melbourne Park hosts around 600 events each year, drawing more than two million people.
Stage 1 of the $366 million redevelopment project involves a major upgrade to fully enclose the Margaret Court Arena with a retractable roof, a new Eastern Plaza with 21 tennis courts as well as a footbridge linking Melbourne Park to the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
Named after Australia’s first Olympic champion, the Edwin Flack Bridge is fitted with custom made Mastermesh perforated metal panels manufactured at Nepean’s Yagoona site. The Mastermesh panels include a mixture of 2mm hexagonal and 5mm custom aluminium panels, all perforated on a state-of-the-art Trumpf True Punch 5000 turret press.
Nepean Building & Infrastructure also supplied 3,600 square metres of custom made galvanised grating for the car park areas of the East Plaza, as well as 380 square metres of FRP flooring to the main viewing platform in the Main Pavilion.
The execution by Nepean’s Victorian involved considerable project planning in collaboration with both the architects and installation team, with great results.
As a fitting touch for a bridge that will connect Melbourne’s new sporting precinct to the home of the Melbourne Games, the bridge has been fitted with two sets of original rings from the 1956 Olympics.
The Edwin Flack bridge is planned for public opening in December in time for the Boxing Day tests while Stage 1 of the redevelopment is expected to be completed in time for the 2015 Australian Open.
