Flame Shield, the newest addition to the ModWood Technologies product range, is a fire retardant decking, certified with a bushfire attack level (BAL) rating of BAL-40.

Bushfires are part of Australia’s environment, and relaxing on a deck is an integral part of the Australian lifestyle. Therefore having decking options which are suited to bushfire prone areas become important.

Options for decking boards suited to bushfire prone areas have been limited, but with the introduction of Flame Shield, that has changed.

The specially formulated decking has a fire retardant additive included during the manufacturing process.

Because of this, the fire retardant decking is certified to AS1530.8.1-2007 and can be used in bushfire prone areas that have a bushfire attack level (BAL) up to and including BAL-40 (AS3959-2009).

The certification of Flame Shield allows for the subfloor to be either enclosed or unenclosed – sub-frame joists and bearers need to be from non-combustible materials or one of the bushfire-resisting timbers.

Additionally, Flame Shield is manufactured with deep embossed patterns for improved slip resistance, which achieves R11 (AS/NZS 4586-2004).

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the fire retardant decking is able to survive the harsh environment.

Flame Shield is available in 137mm x 23mm profile and comes in a range of colours including Sahara, Black Bean, Jarrah and Silver Gum.

Flame Shield decking looks and feels like traditional decking, is durable, and low maintenance.
