TerraFirm Pro, a revolutionary range of retaining wall panels from Modular Walls met the full design brief for the Griffiths Street Corridor Upgrade project being executed by the Toowoomba Regional Council.

The Griffiths Street Corridor Upgrade was part of the $1.6 billion Second Range Crossing project, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments. Being a key milestone for the larger infrastructure project, Griffiths Street provided a vital link to the New England Highway at Harlaxton, supporting the construction of a bypass to the north of Toowoomba.

Hon Scott Buchholz MP, Assistant Minister for Roads and Transport, said, “This upgrade is an important piece in the delivery of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and another example of all levels of government working together to deliver significant infrastructure for the Toowoomba region.”

The scope of the Griffiths Street upgrade project included new underground drainage and road widening works in addition to landscaping that would ensure the final aesthetic was aligned with the local community setting.

However, these upgrades significantly reduced the space between the road and private properties, which meant there wasn’t enough room to accommodate a traditional block retaining wall and footing design. Most retaining wall solutions available in the market were found unsuitable because of the restrictions caused by underground services.

The Griffiths Street Corridor Upgrade project required an innovative retaining wall design that overcame the highly limiting site conditions; it also needed to be lightweight with minimal footing requirements.

Modular Walls’ TerraFirm retaining wall solution was the only product on the market that perfectly fit the design brief. Combining modular design and simplicity, the TerraFirm Pro retaining wall panels overcame every single project challenge and fit the unique site conditions.

Ranging between 900-1200mm in height, the TerraFirm Pro panels provided a sleek, sophisticated retaining wall solution that met all the objectives of strength, durability and harmonious aesthetics. Utilising 100UC14.8 galvanised steel posts, the wall was easily constructed around the existing underground cabling.

The retaining wall constructed with TerraFirm Pro panels was about 90 metres in length, with returns provided for private driveway access. The walls were installed, waterproofed and finished in just four days by Queensland Commercial Walls, with the finished aesthetic exceeding community expectations.
