Leading window coverings brand Luxaflex® has installed a massive solar power system at their Sydney manufacturing facility. Consisting of 2,080 solar panels, it is the largest install of Sunpower P19 panels in the world, and the first of its kind for the window covering industry in Australia.

The mega solar installation will see Luxaflex generate more than 29 million kWh of energy across its 30-year project life, the equivalent of powering over 4,600 homes, planting over 600,000 trees, and saving over 24,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions as well as over 8,000 tons of waste from landfill.

Jenny Brown, National Marketing Manager of Luxaflex Window Fashions said, “This significant investment in green energy is yet another step in our commitment to sustainability, and responsible development is evidenced by our continuous efforts to address environmental concerns, improve production processes, eliminate waste and reduce maintenance.”

The solar installation was managed by Smart Commercial Solar and also features a new model of inverter, the SMA Core 1.

Luxaflex continues to manufacture most of their products in Australia at their 54,880-square-metre Sydney facility where thousands of window coverings are created and distributed nationwide every week.

Reiterating the company’s strong commitment to a sustainable future through initiatives that support the environment and local economy, Brown said their solar installation stood out for the cutting edge technology and the exceptional return on investment it will yield within five years. The install has also created jobs for local workers to bring this impressive project to life.

Luxaflex Window Fashions consistently plays to its unique strengths of rich heritage and superior quality products, while constantly innovating to ensure it stays ahead of trends. For over 65 years, the brand’s window treatments and advanced operating systems have been designed to help reduce energy loss, and save on heating and cooling costs to create more energy efficient and comfortable homes and offices.

For instance, Luxaflex’s Duette Honeycomb Shades were developed in response to the energy crisis of the late 1970s. The latest model in the series, the Luxaflex Duette Architella Ménage Shades are a range of chic window coverings that provides more insulation than any other window covering on the market. The unique design features a patented cell-within-a-cell construction, with six layers of fabric creating five insulating air pockets to trap air for superior energy efficiency. Independent modelling has shown that these shades can reduce an average home’s heating costs by up to 49 per cent, says Brown.
