The Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project in the small Gippsland town of Moe in Victoria has created a beautifully designed urban space for the local community. Designed by architecture firm FJMT, the $14 million project features a contemporary design and combines community buildings and the Moe train lines into a single central hub. The redeveloped rail precinct with a 1980-square-metre footprint provides a library, council meeting rooms, community spaces and a café for Moe residents.
FJMT architect Louise Goodman explained that their design required a very low profile roof, along with very high specification insulation and building sealing. Collaborating with Kingspan Insulation and Sika Membranes for solutions, they were able to achieve a combined system that met their high level design objectives.
Kingspan’s Therma TT47 tapered roofing system was installed by contractors Total Seal Waterproofing, meeting the requirements of the low profile roof design. Gravel roof areas were added to give the building a unique appeal and an identifiable aesthetic.
Kingspan Insulation met with FJMT during the design and documentation phases of the project to provide samples as well as assist with drawing up the specifications.
According to Goodman, Kingspan provided prompt and direct assistance on the development of the project, delivering a high level of technical assistance, including calculations, design and documentation drawings for the tapered insulation, green roof, and across the gravel roof areas.
Kingspan’s Kooltherm K12 framing boards and Kooltherm K10 soffit boards were also specified for the project, helping the building achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating. Contractors South City Plaster installed the products on the building's wall and soffits respectively.
