Kingspan Insulation has adopted the updated insulation standard AS 4859.1:2018 ahead of the 1st May 2020 transition deadline.
The updated standard includes amendments to the way in which rigid foam insulation is aged tested and statistically averaged, the outcome of which is typically a derating of most insulations' R-Value, depending on the thickness, type and chemical composition of the insulation in question.
“This, along with the introduction of NZS 4214:2006, is a major change in the Australian construction industry, and it will really impact the way insulation products are marketed and specified. In the upcoming period, consumers will notice that most insulation products will display lower product R-Values than before, due to the more stringent requirements of the new standard,” said Kingspan Insulation’s ANZ sales director Craig Burr.
“We have already transitioned our popular reflective flexible insulation range AIR-CELL to the new standard in September last year, and now we are moving ahead with our high-performance rigid insulation range, Kooltherm. We are lucky to have a very competent technical team that was able to shoulder this transition and is here to help the customers with any issues or questions they might have,” he added.
Kingspan Insulation products Kooltherm and AIR-CELL carry third-party certifications through the CodeMark scheme. Those certificates are also being transitioned to incorporate the changes required by AS 4859.1:2018 through the independent accredited auditor SAI Global. It is important to note that all current 2016 CodeMark certificates are still valid for that version of the NCC.
