Kilargo launched a new generation blade design for intumescent fire dampers (IFDs) at the ongoing ARBS 2016 exhibition in Melbourne. The patent-pending IFD Aero blade represents an industry-leading breakthrough in fire safety and is designed to boost building comfort and energy efficiency while providing total confidence for architects, specifiers and installers.

The IFD Aero is designed for air to cut straight across the blade, reducing airflow resistance and noise levels in everyday use, and paving the way for increased energy savings compared with traditional fire damper designs.

Developed by the research arm of Kilargo, Australia’s leading provider of IFDs, the IFD Aero blade is the result of industry feedback and consultation with architects, mechanical engineers and builders.

Kilargo National Manager Colin Moss explains that the fire dampers provide critical seals where ducts for heating, ventilation or air-conditioning pass through fire-resistant walls, floors and ceilings. While allowing for virtually unobstructed and guaranteed trouble-free ventilation every day, the dampers also provide total closure during a fire event.

IFD Aero blades have been rigorously tested in accordance with the latest standards and are fully compliant with all relevant Australian and New Zealand building codes. The new blade design will be available across Kilargo’s entire range of wall, floor and ceiling solutions at no extra cost.
