A new customer service module to showcase service history and safety records of hire equipment online has been introduced by Kennards Hire .

Described as a first for the hire industry in Australia, customer service has been taken to a new level by allowing customers to inspect records online. It enhances safety, speeds up the job and cuts the amount of paperwork.

For many years “Ready for Hire” labels have been attached to equipment post service and safety inspections. Now these labels will include a unique plant number and a Quick Response matrix bar code (QR code).

The online portal is accessible by customers through the use of a smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC.

Customers will be able to see a full service history, Certificate of Test and Examination, operator’s manual, risk assessment, pre-delivery checklist and online operator safety checks of the equipment for hire all by simply scanning the QR code or entering the plant number.

Additionally, customers can access user guides, equipment videos, maintenance schedules and insurance details.

Traditionally, daily safety checks were recorded manually in a log book by the operator, which stayed with the machine. Now, with the online portal, the safety checks can be entered online while on the job, meaning history can be recalled easily.

Delaney Civil site supervisor Marco Farina said the portal was a great development for hirers of heavy plant.

“I have to get the service record of all plant coming on site. Being able to read the service record online, and update it when required, will be much easier.”

Lyle Kimber from QC Communications who used a 15m boom lift to install fibre-optic cable said, “When you can quickly see the history of a machine, you will trust it more.”

Alex Varady, of Fairview Carpentry, said, “I think it’s a great idea – you will see the history of the tool, how old it is and the shape it is in.”

The online portal provides a more efficient recording system and enables the flagging of scheduled maintenance. This will lead to greater insight to servicing, maintenance, and generally better equipment reliability.
