Australasia’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring Karndean Designflooring is adding a new specification to its loose lay vinyl range with its new 1.5 metre plank design, as part of its LooseLay Longboard collection.

LooseLay Longboard features 12 contemporary wood designs, each inspired by authentic Australian, European and American woods including spotted gum, blackbutt and Tasmanian oak.

Enhancing its established Karndean LooseLay range, LooseLay Longboard introduces a 1500mm x 250mm format with a 0.5mm wear layer and 4.5mm thickness.

The unique collection offers quick and easy installation to meet challenging time scales, meaning less downtime for end users, and impact in large commercial spaces including open plan offices, retail spaces and hospitality areas.

He said: “Being 40 per cent larger than our existing Karndean LooseLay wood design, our new plank format will be extremely popular with flooring contractors looking to offer the flexibility and convenience of our loose lay vinyl designs, but in an extra-long design for quicker installation in large commercial spaces,” explained Alex Stock, head of commercial sales at Karndean Designflooring.

“Likewise, interior designers can expect a wide array of sophisticated colourways, intricate design features and authentic Australian timber finishes to complement emerging trends in interior design.”

Ideal for traditional and contemporary interiors, Karndean’s Australian inspired woods include two Tasmanian oaks, two blackbutts and two spotted gums.

Offering a sustainable alternative to real Tasmanian Oak sourced from remote lumber yards in South East Australia, Karndean’s Tasmanian Oak and Bleached Tasmanian Oak offers subtle colour variation to create the most natural replication possible.  The Bleached Tasmanian Oak offers a modern whitewashed finish to create a striking variation on the original.

Found from the mountains of the Great Dividing Range to the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, the two spotted gums – Mountain Spotted Gum and Lemon Spotted Gum – reflect the natural characteristics of this rich Australian wood with its subtle spotted appearance and large amounts of sapwood. A sub species of spotted gum, Lemon Spotted Gum mirrors the finished timber with cool crisp lines and a blended finish.

A quintessential Australian hardwood that takes its name from the lower half of the tree’s trunk, North Coast Blackbutt and Embered Blackbutt retains all the natural characters of blackbutt woodThe Embered Blackbutt carries the pink tones of the freshly cut tree, whereas the North Coast Blackbutt has a softer blend of colours.

Developed from a wide mix of wood grains for a truly characterful floor, Karndean’s European Oaks are split into two distinct groups.

Twilight and Raven Oak offer on-trend grey and charcoal tones for a modern look with authentic knots, lightly brushed grain details and subtle distressed finishes.

Inspired by aging French oak boards recovered from the heart of Loire Valley in Blois, Karndean’s Pearl, Champagne and French Grey Oak designs present individual interpretations of this attractive wood through the process of liming, light brushing and adding colour.

Finally, the collection concludes with an American inspired wood - Weathered Heart Pine. The detailing in the reclaimed timber replicates both natural open grain and manmade markings for a unique, aged look.

Popular for its premium designs and quick-fit approach, Karndean LooseLay is an innovative format of luxury vinyl flooring boasting enhanced acoustic properties and excellent environmental credentials. Its popular friction grip backing and increased dimensional stability secures the floor firmly in place, and it can be installed over most hard and flat floors as long as they’re clean, dry and dust-free.
