Vari*Lite wash lights were used by lighting designer A.J. Pen for Linkin Park’s Australian shows in late 2010.

One of the most dynamic and energetic live acts around, Linkin Park’s live performances blend music, art and extraordinary visual technology into a transformative multimedia experience.

The Australian shows saw A.J. Pen use 41 units of Vari*Lite VLX Wash as well as 12 units of Vari*Lite VL*3500 Wash.

According to A.J. Pen, every manufacturer has their range of slowly-evolving LED wash lights and he had heard of the VLX just prior to its release.

When placed beside a couple of LED wash lights from other brands, he could immediately see the difference or as he calls it, ‘an evolution of the wash light’.

Some of the features in the VLX LED wash lights that impress A.J. include the purity of the light and the speed of colour changing that is second to none.

He says he can run a chase at 1500 beats per minute between red and blue with the VLX while other LED wash lights flounder when their processors can’t keep up.

He prefers to call the VLX a tool and not a special effect light.

A J is not impressed by manufacturers who are adding funky features to their models to produce the ultimate LED wash light.

He appreciates the simplicity of the Vari*Lite LED wash lights with features such as colour mixing, dimmer separate from a strobe channel as well as pan and tilt function.

A.J. replaced all the normal wash light positions with VLX light fixtures for the Linkin Park show.

The Vari*Lite VL*3500 wash fixtures were used as follow spots with four backlighting the band and six on the downstage.

The Vari*Lite Wash range is available from Jands , a leading Australian distributor of lighting systems, sound systems and staging equipment.
