A leading hospital in Sydney has been training their health professionals through an excellent teaching programme that relies on cutting edge equipment including AV systems from Harman.

Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroongah, commonly known as the San, has been training doctors, nurses and other health professionals to save lives since 1994. In 2011, The San became a Clinical School of Sydney Medical School, accepting students from stages 1 - 4 of the Sydney Medical Program. The San added the newly built Clinical Education Centre late in 2013 to support its teaching programme.

The new Centre is equipped with cutting-edge hospital simulation spaces, including operating theatres complete with crash carts, a new library featuring modern collaborative learning pods allowing four students to work together electronically, and a huge 400-seat auditorium that can be divided into two spaces for more flexible use.

Bringing it all together is some very clever technology, designed by consultants WSP Group. Integrator Fredon was contracted to supply and implement the school’s AV systems using time-tested and trusted products from Harman.

The main auditorium delivers crystal-clear audio to students with three elements of JBL VRX928LA line array per side. Fredon’s General Manager Nick Orsatti explains that the original specification, which called for JBL CBT column speakers, was upgraded to the VRX, which has proven to be a good decision since Sydney Adventist is planning to hire the venue out.

JBL AC26 compact two-way speakers and JBL Control 24CT ceiling speakers fill out the seminar and other teaching spaces with all systems driven by Crown power amplifiers. A combination of BSS BLU-101, 120 and 160 processors expanded with BLU-BIB break-in-boxes with AEC cards feeds the system, allowing flexible routing and processing options with simple control.

Shure ULX-D radio microphone systems featuring built-in Dante networking were chosen as the main mic inputs, along with Shure Centraverse gooseneck mics for the lecture spaces.

Harman audio equipment was selected for the project at the Sydney Adventist for its proven reliability and quality. Integrator Fredon has used Harman products extensively in previous jobs within secondary and tertiary education, commercial and performing arts spaces, and user feedback has been great thanks to ease of use and sound quality.
