HVG Facades is proud to have supplied Swisspearl in Reflex Satin for the angled roof of the eye-catching and award-winning Green Square Library project, which opened in Sydney in October last year.

Design firms Studio Hollenstein, in association with Stewart Architecture, were awarded the prestigious Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture, at the Australian Institute of Architects National Awards ceremony earlier this month.

Set to become Australia’s most densely populated precinct, an added 60,000 new residents are planned to move into Green Square over the next 15 years. With the district being transformed into a high-density apartment metropolis, the designers were looking for a roofing material that would stand the test of time. So, it’s no wonder they chose hard-wearing and impact resistant, Swisspearl high density fibre cement cladding. Fire safety was also of paramount importance when considering the needs of the, soon-to-be, heavily populated area, so the fact that Swisspearl has achieved non-combustible status (by satisfying the strict requirements of AS2908.2) also played a part in the architect’s decision.

Award judges said Green Square Library had been recognised ‘as a standout for its key design move: to locate the bulk of the library program underground in anticipation of a tall and dense urban future all around it’. With so much growth and height soon to be surrounding the structure, the architects were also looking for an aesthetically pleasing and stylish roof. This is where Swisspearl’s enormous range of colours and finishes came into play. The designers had an unsurpassed array of tones and styles to choose from, finally settling on classic and subtle, Reflex Satin White.

Sustainability was another important factor in the project. A system that collects rainwater, which is then recycled and reused in the library, is located underneath the square’s paving so, the architects would have been pleased to know that Swisspearl is also manufactured with a high level of environmental awareness. The Swisspearl high-density fibre cement panels are manufactured using a closed water cycle and a slow natural curing time, so it consumes far less energy than the production of most other building materials.

With its extensive range of colours and finishes for architectural flexibility, and its maximum fire resistance for peace of mind, Swisspearl is the ideal option when choosing fibre cement panels for your next award-winning design.

Choose Swisspearl and enjoy European design for the Australian landscape.
