A herringbone timber flooring product from Havwoods was specified for WeWork’s new office in Martin Place, Sydney to add a heritage touch to the design.
Design firm TomMarkHenry was given a brief by the client, WeWork to create an interior that was “an exemplary example of office space today while fitting seamlessly into the brand’s global offer”.
WeWork’s new office was located in the famous Commonwealth Bank site nicknamed The Money Box building, with the company occupying 3700 square metres across three floors. According to TomMarkHenry, the original building was built in 1916 and recognised as one of Sydney’s most outstanding office towers.
TomMarkHenry worked with WeWork to meet their global standards and brand guidelines. According to the designers, the gathering spaces needed to feel informal and act as flexible amenity spaces, catering to the changing needs of their members as well as encouraging them to interact.
TomMarkHenry’s office space design took its cues from the building’s banking history with a rich colour palette of navy blue, deep green and burgundy, and accents of brass, marble and herringbone timber floors. Modern touches of pale pink and bright blue provide contrasting accents and complement WeWork’s global brand aesthetic.
Havwoods’ HW699 Oak Natural Herringbone was specified for the flooring to add a heritage feeling to the space.
The designers have previously used Havwoods herringbone engineered timber in several residential and retail projects and have always been very satisfied with its performance. In this instance, WeWork was also comfortable with specifying a Havwoods product as it has been used in some of their overseas locations.
