Good Design Australia announces that Glem Matrix 90 Bi Energy Cooker has been shortlisted for the prestigious design awards. Good Design Awards is Australia’s oldest and most prestigious award for design and innovation with the program showcasing superior examples of good design across a broad range of industries.

Good Design Awards are given across seven main categories and 25 sub-categories, representing one of the most diverse ranges of submissions in the world.

The Glem Matrix 90 Bi Energy Cooker is a freestanding cooker featuring five burner gas hobs and a 116-litre oven capable of operating on gas or electricity. A product from the Glem Gas factory in Modena, Italy, the Energy Cooker has been built using the latest manufacturing techniques developed in consultation with Porsche Consulting.

The judges described the Glem Matrix 90 Bi Energy Cooker as a very functional and high quality product that blends traditional design with high-end innovation and technology. They added that the world-first Bi-Energy innovation will definitely raise the benchmark in this very competitive market.

A week-long judging process involving more than 30 local and international design experts shortlisted 266 of the 380 entries received for the Good Design Selection stage. These entries are now in the running to receive the country’s highest design honour to be announced at the Good Design Awards event later this month in Sydney.

Entries qualifying for the Good Design Selection stage must satisfy the stringent criteria for good design including safety, quality, functionality, sustainability and innovation.

The Good Design Awards conducts one of the most rigorous assessment processes in the world and to qualify for this round is a significant achievement. Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia explains that the very high standards of the evaluation process results in only the best submissions making it through to the shortlist.

The Good Design Award winners will be announced at the annual Good Design Awards Gala Night on 29 May at The Pavilion, Darling Harbour.
