LoE-i89, a low-e coated glass from Glassworks Australia has been used extensively in a home extension project in Cunningham St, Northcote, helping brighten up the space while maintaining superior insulation.

A design and build collaboration involving Bellemo & Cat Architects, Build Her Collective and Beirin Projects, the two-storey home seamlessly combines classic heritage elegance with a modern vibe, complete with spectacular soaring pitched ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows to create a light-filled space.

The home uses 80 square metres of LoE-i89 toughened 6mm glass and has been awarded a 6-star energy rating despite opting for single glazing. This is because LoE-i89 is the only soft coat low-e glass of its kind able to achieve superior insulation performance, even as a single glazed unit.

The LoE-i89 glass was installed by glaziers Aztec Windows, with the super clear and haze-free glazing contrasting beautifully against the black aluminium frames.

The house also features polished concrete and engineered oak floors as well as marble, oak and black steel, with the bespoke kitchen connecting to the open plan living area and private garden with a pool.

Though the home features zoned air conditioning and slab heating for energy efficiency, the use of LoE-i89 glass is expected to keep the internal temperature near constant around the year, further increasing energy savings for the owner.
