Several drainage products from Galvin Engineering were specified for the AUS$26 million redevelopment of Mackay Base Hospital in Queensland.

Woods Bagot was appointed the architect, health planner, interior designer and landscape architect for the project, working in association with Sanders Turner Ellick Architects of Mackay. The master plan of the redevelopment project zoned the site and facilities into 12-hour and 24-hour operational areas, with the former comprising of major ambulatory services and the latter including inpatient, emergency and inpatient support services.

As part of the master plan, a new main entrance was provided to the hospital, and public and staff circulation routes were rationalised to reduce travel distances and improve security, particularly during after-hours.

New building works were initiated for the Women’s and Child Health Service, Allied Health and Pathology Laboratory. The project also encompassed refurbishment of the majority of the Acute Clinical Care areas, including inpatient ward facilities, mortuary and support services.

Products from Galvin Engineering that were specified and installed for the project included floor drains, wastes and cleanouts.
